Mumbai Police: Your report card is not good

To: Mumbai Police

Dear Commissioner,

It's time you are ashamed of your team and have someone take responsibility for turning the protector image to a scoundrel (thug)! It's disgusting that we pick our morning newspapers only to be reported another of the police crimes. Sir, if your team is going to be so busy indulging in such grouse and sometimes yet so petty crimes how is the force going to find time to dig out the so called "underworld" elements if they themselves are creating so much havoc "above the ground". And just in case like all other issues if you are not clued on to the MANY such incidents happening around the city here is a Link Bag to help you review all the stories.

In the earnest interest of every citizen of Mumbai, we request you to kindly pull up those responsible not only for this these incidents but also provide help, take precautionary action against those who can be potential elements of worry. We should be proud of the fact and would once again like to retain the image of a city which was once the safest city in the country for a single woman, too.

Regards,
Fearful Citizens of Mumbai.

Your report card is in a mess

Rojo screwed up

Almost a month back I moved from My Yahoo to Rojo for my blog reading. This week what happened has forced me to find a new blog reader, once more. Yes, Rojo actually screwed up.

How?
I wanted to test run Bloglines after having read a couple of reviews. So I thought I would get Rojo to export my blogroll and then I would import the same into Bloglines. Now, the export feature at Rojo would just not work and only generate an empty XML file in spite of repeated attempts. After numerous failed attempts I finally gave up and signed off for the weekend.

The Hard Hit
When I got back into office on Tuesday morning, what do I see? Rojo had actually cleaned up (deleted) my entire blogroll just like that. Now, if you are a Rojo user, you will know that there is no such option as "Delete All" which I may have hit accidentally also, because there is no such button itself. I think I lost about 25 of my blog feeds which have been recently growing thanks to DesiPundit.

New Player
Having lost it all at Rojo and with no back-up XML to restore the list, I finally decided to re-create my list in Bloglines. So far it's been a good experience and I am going to hang around a bit till I see something better at Rojo. But for now it's a sure bye-bye to Rojo.

New K for Ekta

Many years back when Balaji Telefilms was not that big and obsessed with the K factor they had a very successful serial running without a K name - Hum Paanch. This was about a family which had 5 children and a dead mother who spoke from the photo frame to her husband. It was laugh-riot and I remember my family glued to the television every Tuesday at 8PM. (I think that's when it came, if not mistaken).

Tonight when I was flipping channels, I saw that Hum Paanch is being now re-launched with much of the same star cast bearing a few changes. Very interesting, but what's missing is the Balaji Telefilm magic formula - They have not renamed the serial to start with K which is very unlike Ekta Kapoor. Now, there could be many reasons behind not doing so, but being the helpful I generated a few K name for Hum Paanch. Ekta, pick your choice.

  • Kyonki.. Hum Paanch Hain
  • Kahani Hum Paanch Ki
  • Kasauti Hum Paanch Kay
  • Kahain to honge Hum Paanch
  • K Street pe Hum Paanch
  • Kkusum ke Hum Paanch
  • Kavyanjali aur Hum Paanch
  • Kaisa yeh Hum Paanch
  • Kabhi Sauten Kabhi Saheli Kabhi Hum Paanch
  • Karam Hum Paanch Ke

I am sure there could have been many more generated, but closer to bed-time these are the only ones I could think of. Feel free to share some more.

The faces of Navratri

Today the nation celebrates Dussehra, which is also the ninth and final night for the Navratri-Dandiya celebrations. For nine nights people dance to merry and TV channels beam these faces across the television set for the entertainment of those (like me) who could not make it to the event.

Dussehra being a holiday I managed to spend some time last night watching these telecasts and made simple "people observations". Here are my findings on the typical faces present at a Dandiya function.

Main bhi Madhuri Dixit
This girl could have spent more than Rs.10,000 to dress up for this nine-day festival. Essential Ingredients of this type: A designer wardrobe, a Kaya skin clinic back-rub, lots of hours spent at the beauty parlour and formal dance training a month before the festival starts. All this for that one goal: "Best Dressed Female Dancer".

I am here to exercise
Step1-Step2-Step3 and turn around. This particular type although here to play Dandiya ends up doing some kind of a P.T exercise like the ones you did in school. No smile, no enthusiasm or the excitement of the music. It's more like the rhythm of the music just moving the body like a robot.

The Camera-man's favourite
Every few minutes into the telecast, you notice that a particular girl has attracted the attention of the camera man. As long as she dances perfect to the tunes, she will be captured and telecast. This goes on for a long time till some other camera man at the other end of the venue has spotted "another".

Mr/Mrs Evergreen
Age no bar, this old generation is here to dance till their legs hurt and backs break. I have noticed a particular old lady who is present at Falguni Pathak's dandiya event year after year.

Close-up Couple
Dressed in the most authentic attire for the night, this couple will be dancing like a pair from Bollywood movies. Steps perfect to the T and above all, a wide smile to top it up. Award: "BEST COUPLE FOR THE NIGHT".

And of course, then there is this other type which makes up for the huge crowd who has come there with the only intention to "watch" the above mentioned types. No playing and no dancing - STRICTLY NO. Till the festival comes around again next year - A Happy Dussehra to you all.

Spim: The new spam

After seeing this stupid message for almost a week now, I finally read what this thing is all about. I don't know this person and I am surely not entering someone with such a weird nickname and e-mail address to my list. And the person is sure desperate for having sent me this every time I log into MSN. I am sick & tired of hitting the "Cancel", so please if anyone gets a solution drop me a line.

Thanks, Quick Online Tips for the info.

Update:
Silly me, didn't see the "Block this contact..." I simply choose that and it's gone now.

Blog version 3.0

This is probably the third major change over from my blog. It's been more than a year now and three changes are not that bad. I think the colors are real neat and after months of white I moved to black, finally. Of course my wish to move to Wordpress continues.

So what's new?
  • The over-all look & feel
  • The comment form has changed. If you notice a problem in posting comments, can you please drop me a line at kapilb [at] yahoo [.] com
Would love to hear what you think of this new template. And yes, a big thanks to the folks at Blogger Templates. They have been putting up some neat stuff indeed.

Update: The comment form is working fine and I have decided to stop using Haloscan for the comments.
